David Axelrod
Obama's senior advisor said today that a plan to grant citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. is in the works and could be made law
as early as next year.
On CNN's "State of the Union" with John King, the White House's
David Axelrod dodged a question asking him to commit to pushing immigration reform regardless of the political climate, but nonetheless confirmed earlier hints by Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano that Democrats and Republicans are working behind the scenes to pass major new legislation.
"I think some good work is being done on both sides of the aisle to achieve that," Axelrod said, "and Secretary Napolitano is getting that done."
Axelrod added, "If we can get a group together to give it the momentum to pass in Congress, then we're going to push forward with it."
But while some attempt at addressing immigration law is widely anticipated, Axelrod went further, tipping the White House's hand on the more contentious question surrounding immigration reform: if and how the estimated millions of illegal aliens in the U.S. today can become American citizens.
"We have to hold accountable and responsible the 12 million people who are here illegally," Axelrod explained. "And they have to pay a fine and a penalty and have to meet certain requirements in order to get in the line to earn citizenship. And if they don't want to do that, they need to leave."
Axelrod also affirmed, "We want a system that holds everybody responsible and everyone accountable. We have to have better security at our borders and we are developing that, thanks to Secretary Napolitano. We have to have better enforcement on employers who abuse the system by hiring undocumented workers in order to undercut the labor market."

Well it shouldn't be hard for them to pay a fine....with money from the jobs they have stolen from Americans.

Hey Axelrod, What if the majority of them don't want to play by those rules? Are you going to round everyone of them up and ship them back home? I thought this was impossible under the pro amnesty crowds thinking. So, if there is no real threat of doing that, what is the incentive for people to do right? Without REAL CONSEQUENCES that people can see and feel, there is no law. The illegals have already heard you say time and time again, you will not enforce the laws, you will not deport on a mass scale. They know you'll take case by case to court in the mean time giving them a few more years to hang around while they "get right" with the system, then they will disappear into the night at the last minute and start over somewhere else, all to get around accountability and the rule of law. We know how you people work, you say a lot of stuff ignorant Americans want to hear and then you do the opposite by claiming you have your hands tied by the court system, the very one you created to tie the hands of the American People, that is why laws are not being enforced right now. And the gullable new generation that knows no better will swallow your crap hook, line and sinker.
Obviously, the laws aren't going to be enforced, never have been never will be. We see the track record of lies a deciet, I know, there is a new generation you hope to capture with your lies once again, so you can keep doing this to the American People. You are all liars, most dems and most repubs.
YOU CROOKS WILL NOT WIN THIS TIME. HELL WILL FREEZE OVER BEFORE YOU DO!Unless we get those criminals & make them pay for what they have done to our country and the lawlessness they have sponsored, we are just another Mexico ourselves!

AMNESTY, AMNESTY, AMNESTY and MORE AMNESTY GARBAGE! This administration, like all other before it, fails to understand that there is no excuse for not enforcing ALL our existing immigration laws - INTERNALLY! WITH ALL THE CAPACITIES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AVAILABLE TO US and then some.
These people entered our country illegally. They are not ENTITLED to a "path to legalization" and should not be given the opportunity to move as a block of 20 million self-rightous squatters smack-dab into our immigration system.
No amount of excuses or cover-ups for the miserable failure of government to stand behind its own laws should be tolerated by the American people. For Americans to have to accommodate for the failure of our government's border security is outrageous.
True deceit exists everywhere there is a sanctuary city, a dishonorable employer, a lying politician, a religious institution that claims it's above the law, cheating illegals and their co-conspirators, demanding ethno-centric organizations, a tainted liberal media, a pathetic bunch of court jockeys, and everything else that supports this mockery of justice.
This is an enormous SCAM against the public.
We need another TEN YEARS of REAL ENFORCEMENT before any consideration of a path to citizenship should ever be considered again. We need high and strong, complete border fencing and a huge Border Patrol force.
Do not fall for this phoney pre-mature legislation. Kill the bill!
