Illegals Find Risky Ways to Sneak Into US
Saturday, 04 Apr 2015 11:32 AM

Immigrants are finding ever-more ways to get past border checkpoints, including stowing away in tiny spaces like the upper air flow compartments of big-rig trucks and even inside suitcases and duffel bags, according sources in the Border Patrol's Rio Grande Valley sector.
At the Falfurrias, Texas, checkpoint alone, the Border Patrol has apprehended more than 7,000 immigrants suspected of crossing the border illegally already this year, reports CBS affiliate KGBT-TV in Harlingen, Texas. Agents say immigrants are hiding in the trucks' compartments without the drivers knowing.
"Falfurrias checkpoint is one of the busiest checkpoints in the country with regard to seizures and apprehensions," said Omar Zamora, spokesperson for Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley sector. "In addition to that we also inspect more than 8,000 vehicles per day...we don’t want anybody to die or get hurt or seriously injured."
In recent days, the Border Patrol had five incidents where people were hiding in the truck air flow compartments, and on Tuesday, "we had a group of seven immigrants, which is quite a few illegal immigrants, to be hiding in the back of some of these air dams," said Zamora.
And the cases are multiplying, he said, with two or three being reported every day, so the agency has installed cameras several feet off the ground in hopes of detecting illegal activity.
Zamora said many immigrants are waiting at truck stops in the area, waiting for unsuspecting truck drivers.
"In many cases [truck drivers] may not know anything about it, but what they can do and what we’re asking them to do is check," he said. "It will only take a couple of minutes."
Even if drivers don't know there are immigrants hiding in their trucks, they can still be cited for breaking the law, and the Border Patrol and local law enforcement officials are requesting the drivers check their air flow vents to be sure there is nobody hiding inside.
One truck driver, who the station called "Sam" to protect his identity, said his record has been tarnished because two immigrants were hiding in his air flow vent.
"When I got to the checkpoint, they told me I had two people up there, and I didn’t know about it," he said. "I was so shocked. I was so scared. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know anything about it."
And after that happened, the driver said he has been having trouble going across the border to make his deliveries.
"Now, when I go to Mexico with my passport, they check me," he said. "They put me there like I'm a criminal or something. They check my record and stuff."
Meanwhile, two women are in trouble in another border town for trying to sneak in immigrants in a suitcase and a duffel bag, reports the Laredo Morning Times.
According to court documents, the women, Lydia Uresti Flores, 50, and Jasmine Nemesis Lopez, 19, were arrested for bringing in and harboring illegal immigrants after an agent inspected their vehicle at the Border Patrol checkpoint in Freer, Texas, at 1:30 a.m. on March 27, as they were trying to enter the country.

I sure as hell cannot fault anyone for treating a trucker as a criminal after being caught escorting in two aliens!! If he is the sole driver, he has sole responsibility for who is aboard, and should face charges, no less than 2 years in prison!
This not knowing has a funny odor. sounds as it might meet and require prior arrangements? Additional investigation and information is required!

Eight thousand vehicles per day. How thorough can those inspections really be?
The only way to shut off the flood of illegals sneaking into our country is to shut off the jobs magnet which is responsible for most illegal entries.
Universal E-Verify would shut off the jobs magnet. That would accomplish border control for pennies on the enforcement dollar. IMO patriots would be wise to put time and energy into enacting Universal E-Verify.
