Illegals insanity

To appreciate the magnitude -- and surely the insanity -- of the illegal aliens problem from Mexico, please note that otherwise rational people in the federal government are working on ways to allow illegals working in America to collect Social Security benefits.

"Totalization" is the official name for an agreement between two nations to ensure that the citizens of one country are not taxed twice if they are working in the other country. The United States has totalization agreements with 21 countries.

And then there is Mexico.

There have been ongoing, behind-the-scenes negotiations about this surreal issue that becomes the law of the land once President Bush signs the agreement and Congress does not challenge it for the next 60 days.

That millions of illegals are making a living here, taking jobs from American workers, is bad enough. That the foreign invasion, encouraged by an almost nonexistent defense of the border continues, is worse. That illegals soon could be entitled to Social Security benefits is dumbfounding.

The only silver lining in the otherwise very dark cloud is that there doesn't seem to be anything else that illegals cannot access in the U.S.

Has there ever been a nation that has cared so much for the foreigners who violate its laws? Has there ever been a nation that has cared so little for itself?
