Illegals will be given representation in Mexican Congress.

Mexico, 18 nov (EFE). - Leaders of Mexican immigrants in the United States asked yesterday for the creation in Mexico of a ministry that takes care of this social phenomenon and to open the Congress to the immigrants so that they can be Representives and Senators.

These suggestions form part of the conclusions of the First Parliament of Migrant Leaders, that took part on Friday and yesterday in the House of Representatives in Mexico. This forum counted on 540 representatives of groups of immigrants in the United States and had the participation of the activist Elvira Arellano, who was deported to Mexico on the August 20. During the parliament, strategies of lobbying and initiatives of law were analyzed, the protection and attention of immigrants and the formulas of shipment of remittances.

In the conclusions, indicated by an official notice of the House of Representatives, the immigrants requested that the Mexican government create a Secretary of Migrants, so that it takes care of the necessities of that sector of the population. In the United States, 11 million Mexicans live in that country, half of which are undocumented. Also they requested reforms in the Mexican electoral laws so that it allows the immigrants to occupy ten seats in the House of Representatives and two in the Senate. Another proposal menioned is tto allowe the Mexican immigrants to vote abroad presenting/displaying their passport, since the laws demands that they register in a special register and have a voter credential.

The Mexican Congress must make true of these proposals "because there are many leaders present who represent millions of Mexicans, we must recognize that this is a part of the citizens of Mexico that do not have representation, and they must have it", said Raymundo Cardenas, Congressman of the leftist Revolutionary Democratic Party (PRD).

Congressman Andrés Bermúdez supported this position, of the National Action Party (PAN). "they are requesting that we help them, we already received their proposals, we cannot turn back to the truth", said Bermúdez. EFE

MEXICO, D.F. - To the choir of "Long live our cause", "For people without borders" and "Si se puede", more than 400 leaders immigrants who attended the Congress, forgot their differences yesterday to formalize the Parliament of Migrants in the United States that will push for the defense of their rights in both countries.

"The intention is to send a united message", said the Congressman Jose Jacques, one of the organizers when ending the Parliament and giving the indication that every meeting encounter will take place every six months. "For people without borders", the immigrant leaders shouted, raising their fist. The First Parliament received 250 proposals to which they will be taken by the newly formed assembly, made up by 31 representatives of 20 states in the United States. California will have 8 members; Texas, will have 4; 2 Illinois and the rest will have only 1, since the number of representatives depends on the density of Mexican population in those organizations.

As a goal, congressmen committed themselves to making initiatives of law basing it on the parliament's proposals and to pressure president Felipe Calderón to press on his rightful demands.
