Occupancy laws in Prince William County allow each single-family house to contain one family with no more than two boarders, or two single parents or guardians and their children, or no more than three unrelated people living together.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors will hear a report Tuesday from the public works department about residential overcrowding in the county.

The briefing will show that in 2005 there were occupancy 443 complaints.

There were 19 violation notices issued as a result of the complaints.

Seventeen of the 19 were resolved voluntarily, one was resolved in court and one was determined to be unfounded, according to county documents.

The report will also show that overpopulation creates other problems.

In 2005 there were 291 notices issued for illegal parking, trash violations and storage of inoperative vehicles.

The county will also hear about property code enforcement from the public works department.

In 2005 the county received 3,341 complaints for various infractions that included people building without zoning approval, outdoor storage, inadequate property maintenance and illegal parking on the grass.

There were 3,198 violation notices issued.

The board will vote on whether to endorse the Alice Ferguson Foundation Trash Free Potomac River.

The foundation is an Accokeek, Md.-based non-profit organi-

zation whose objectives include

improvement of the region's water supply.

The foundation has drawn up the Potomac River Watershed Treaty to raise awareness, promote education and provide services to reduce trash in the Potomac River.

If the board agrees to the treaty, it will join eight other area jurisdictions in signing the treaty.
