Immigrant is charged with trespassing in N.H.

HUDSON, N.H. -- Local police have charged another suspected illegal immigrant with criminal trespassing, calling the arrest a part of protecting national security.

On Friday, authorities arrested Luiz De Amorim, 42, of Hudson, following a traffic stop. Officials say De Amorim, who is from Brazil, could not produce a driver's license or other valid identification.

The arrest follows three similar, high-profile arrests.

In April, police in New Ipswich gained national attention for charging a Mexican man, Jorge Ramirez, 21, with criminal trespassing and driving without a license after his vehicle broke down. Less than a month later, Hudson police charged Sergio Ruiz-Robles, 21, and Margarito Jaramillio-Escobar, 23, both illegal immigrants from Mexico, with criminal trespass. All three men have pleaded not guilty.

Hudson police Chief Richard Gendron says arresting illegal immigrants is an important part of national security. ''We are of the opinion that they came into this country illegally . . . and for law enforcement to look the other way is wrong," Gendron said.
