SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - An immigrant rights group plans a rally next week at the Capitol to protest an executive order by Republican Gov. Susana Martinez that allows state police to ask about the immigration status of people arrested for crimes.

The rally had been scheduled for Wednesday but was postponed until next Monday because of winter storm that hit the state.

Santa Fe-based Somos Un Pueblo Unido said the rally also will protest what it considers anti-immigrant legislation.

Martinez supports the repeal of a law allowing driver's licenses for illegal immigrants.

The governor's executive order overturns a policy by former Gov. Bill Richardson, which prohibited state law enforcement from asking about a person's immigration status solely to determine whether the individual was in violation of federal immigration laws.
