An illegal alien from Mexico with two state sexual assault convictions, and two federal immigration convictions, was arrested May 5 by officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Full Story

May 5, 2016 – HSI Chicago seizes nearly 60 tons of honey illegally imported from China

Special agents with ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) have seized nearly 60 tons of illegally imported Chinese honey valued at more than $200,000 destined for U.S. consumers. Full Story

May 5, 2016 - ICE deports former Kosovo Liberation Army soldier accused of persecuting ethnic Serbs during the Kosovo conflict

A Kosovo national accused of participating in the Kosovo Liberation Army's (KLA) persecution of suspected Serbian collaborators was removed May 2 from the United States by ERO officers. Full Story

May 5, 2016 – Ringleaders of human smuggling organization linked to multiple deaths get lengthy prison terms

Two Mexican nationals convicted of being key conspirators in an Arizona-based human smuggling ring linked to multiple deaths have been sentenced to lengthy federal prison terms, following a multiagency probe spearheaded by HSI. Full Story

May 6, 2016 – New Orleans motel sex trafficker sentenced to 24 years in prison

A Tennessee man was sentenced to more than 24 years in federal prison for his role in operating a sex trafficking enterprise out of the Riviera Motel in New Orleans that used force and threats to compel multiple women to engage in prostitution for the defendant’s profit. Full Story

Owner of offshore brokerage firm pleads guilty to $250 million money laundering scheme
Greeg R. Mulholland, 46, used offshore shell companies in Belize and the West Indies to carry out numerous schemes, including the manipulation of Cynk technology Corp (CYNK). Pursuant to his plea agreement with the government, Mulholland has agreed to forfeit, among other things, a Dassault-Breguet Falcon 50 aircraft, a Range Rover Defender vehicle, two real estate properties in British Columbia, and funds and securities on deposit at more than a dozen bank and brokerage accounts.

Fresno-area youth director sentenced to over 12 years in prison for enticement of a minor
According to evidence presented at trial in February, Juan Martin Torres, 28, of Firebaugh, who served as the director of the Firebaugh Boys and Girls Club, sent a boy messages over Facebook offering to shortcut the boy’s community service requirement if he agreed to sexual acts with Torres. The boy reported the messages to law enforcement.

Jury convicts Chicago-area attorney of immigration fraud for falsifying clients' asylum applications
Robert DeKelaita, 53, of Glenview, Illinois, was convicted on one count of conspiracy to commit asylum fraud, two counts of knowingly offering false statements in an asylum application, and one count of procuring perjury during asylum interviews.

West Texas woman sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for producing child pornography
Misty Dawn Kelley, 25, from Abilene, was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for producing child pornography, and aiding and abetting.

Montana man sentenced for theft from US Air Force base
John Edmonston, 54, of Great Falls, a civilian, was sentenced to five years’ probation and ordered to pay restitution of $5,523.65 to Malmstrom Air Force Base. Edmonston and at least three other individuals (all enlisted in the U.S. Air Force) were part of a scheme to take equipment and tools from Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls.

ICE deports former Kosovo Liberation Army soldier accused of persecuting ethnic Serbs during the Kosovo conflict
In interviews with immigration officials, Halil Dacaj made incriminating statements revealing that he interrogated, beat, and delivered prisoners to KLA command for further punishment. On Aug. 11, 2015, ERO officers arrested Dacaj pursuant to Operation No Safe Haven.

Seattle childcare worker charged in child pornography probe
Kyle J. Tate, 34, of Seattle was arrested following the execution of a search warrant at his home. He made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Seattle Friday afternoon and was ordered detained pending a hearing next week.

25 charged in multiagency probe targeting San Diego-area gangs linked to drug trafficking
The two indictments unsealed this week describe four conspiracies involving overlapping players with ties to more than 10 street gangs, including the Skyline, the Samoan Bloods, the Kalaban, the Stateside Islanders, the Paradise Hills Locos, Logan Heights, Old Town National City, National City Southside Mob, Trust No Soul, and Lincoln Park gang.

3 Bay Area residents and Nevada man charged in major visa fraud scheme
Sunitha Guntipally, 43, of Fremont; her husband, Venkat Guntipally, 47, of Fremont; Pratap “Bob” Kondamoori, 54, of Incline Village, Nevada; and his sister, Sandhya Ramireddi, 56, of Pleasanton, were named in a 33-count indictment filed Thursday charging them with conspiracy to commit visa fraud, use of false documents, mail fraud, and other offenses.

New Orleans motel sex trafficker sentenced to 24 years in prison
Granville Robinson, 27, of Memphis, Tennessee, also faces a restitution hearing set for July to determine payment to his victims. Robinson pleaded guilty in February to one count of conspiring to commit sex trafficking and one count of sex trafficking.

North Carolina sex trafficker sentenced to life in prison after HSI investigation
Shahid Hassan Muslim, AKA, Sharp, 33, of Charlotte, was also ordered to pay nearly $14,000 in restitution to two victims. On Aug. 11, 2014, a federal jury found Muslim guilty on all counts, including two counts of sex trafficking, one count of kidnapping, one count of production of child pornography, one count of witness tampering and five counts of promoting a prostitution business enterprise

The three shipping container loads (195 barrels) of bulk honey smuggled into the United States were falsely declared as originating from Vietnam to evade anti-dumping duties applicable to Chinese-origin honey.

Ringleaders of human smuggling organization linked to multiple deaths get lengthy prison terms
Fidel Mancinas-Franco, 51, of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, and Jose Villela-Lopez, 53, of Cananea, Sonora, Mexico, were sentenced Wednesday to 96 and 120 months, respectively, by Chief U.S. District Judge Raner C. Collins.

ICE detainee passes away at San Diego-area detention facility
Igor Zyazin, 46, was pronounced dead by paramedics shortly after 10 p.m. while en route to the hospital. Zyazin is the sixth individual to pass away in ICE custody in fiscal year 2016. His is the first detainee death at the Otay Mesa Detention Center in two years.

Los Angeles-area man receives decade-long prison term following 3rd child pornography conviction
James Gregory O’Neill, 58, was sentenced Monday afternoon by U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner. O’Neill pleaded guilty in January to possessing child pornography on his mobile phone in the spring of 2015.

ICE detainee passes away at Miami hospital
Jose Leonardo Lemus Rajo, 23, was transferred from the Krome Detention Center to the hospital April 26, after experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms using the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol monitoring scale.

Southeast Texas 'Santa Claus' convicted of distributing child pornography
Reynaldo Ramirez, 38, was arrested on a criminal complaint Dec. 24, 2015. The May 2 court heard that the case began when a CCPD detective was able to successfully download various files containing child pornography from an Internet Protocol address that was associated with Ramirez.

Massachusetts sex offender sentenced for possession of child pornography
Derrick Jones, 45, of Arlington, was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 15 years in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release, and will be required to register as a sex offender upon release from prison. In January 2016, Jones pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

Orange County man surrenders on charges of traveling to Canada to have sex with teen he persuaded to send nude videos
Paul Binh Do, 29, surrendered to federal authorities Monday morning. He was charged last month with one count of traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct and one count of receipt of child pornography.

Salt Lake City ICE officers arrest twice-deported, twice-convicted criminal alien sex offender from Mexico
Sergio Amador-Olive, 37, from Mexico, was arrested April 28 at his Salt Lake City residence. Amador-Olive had a warrant for his arrest for failing to register as a sex offender. As an illegal alien with multiple state and federal convictions, he is also an ICE priority for immigration enforcement.

Dallas 'pimp' pleads guilty in child sex trafficking case
Edric Norvell Robinson Sr., 45, of Dallas, who remains in federal custody, faces a statutory penalty of not less than 10 years and up to life in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for Aug. 10 before U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade.

Approximately 5,000 students from the public and private schools in Puerto Rico received tips on how to avoid falling victim to online sexual predators Wednesday and Thursday at the Complejo Ferial de Puerto Rico in Ponce. The presentation is the third child abuse prevention and education summit organized by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in San Juan, and one of largest Project iGuardian outreach since the inception of the initiative in March 2014.
