Immigrants Seeking Green Cards Told To Come Back Later

NEW YORK (CAP) - Thousands of immigrants seeking green cards will have to wait before being allowed entrance into the country because the machine that makes those cards is not working properly. Immigration and Naturalization Service officials said the cards are coming out more of a blue than green, and it would take legislation to legally change the name of the card.

"Just tell them we're full," said Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina. "We've got enough people now. Except for baseball players. We could use more Cuban baseball players."

Burr said he plans to propose legislation that would send every third immigrant seeking asylum in the United States to Canada, because "that country is hardly full at all." Another part of the bill would fund the manufacturing of two more green card machines so that if the main machine breaks down, the whole country won't have to be put on hold until some repairman with droopy pants shows up.

INS officials said they plan to upgrade the machine as soon as it is back online again, installing Microsoft's Green Card '05, INS Explorer 6.0, and INS Green Card For Windows. Officials said the better technology should help them produce fraud-proof cards. New features on the cards include the immigrant's name, photograph, and favourite whiskey.

There are approximately 78,000 cards currently on hold while the machine is being repaired. It is expected that of that total, 45,000 people will bilk the U.S. welfare system; 30,000 will commit crimes outright; 2,500 will become useful to American society; and the remaining 500 will all live in the same boarding house and work for a landscape company.
