SC GOP Cheer Romney Attack on Immigration Bill, Boo Senator
Written for the web by Jason Kobely, Internet News Producer

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Republicans have been making their voices heard on a proposed overhaul of the nation's immigration policy.

The White House and senators of both parties announced they had worked out a deal earlier this week. The proposed reforms would toughen border and workplace enforcement, yet offer legal status
and an ultimate path to citizenship to millions of undocumented workers.

At South Carolina's Republican convention Saturday, a crowd of about 1,000 delegates cheered when former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney criticized the bill. Romney told them there
should be "one simple rule: no amnesty."

But the crowd booed their South Carolina's own senator, Lindsey Graham, when he said he had worked to put the legislation together. Graham said it was the best bill they could get, but some in the crowd shouted "No!"
