OTAY MESA, Calif. -- Customs and Border Patrol officers made a surprising discovery in the engine compartment of a white Ford pickup truck Tuesday morning.

Officers said they discovered three undocumented Mexican citizens -- two women and a man -- hiding under the hood as the truck attempted to cross into the Otay Mesa port of entry.

Officers said the Ford F-250 entered the port at 6:30 a.m. After the man driving the truck, a resident of Tijuana, gave inconsistent answers, officers said they referred him to a second inspection area.

A human-narcotics detector dog alerted officers to the hood of the vehicle. Officers used a crowbar to open the hood because it appeared to be wired shut. Once the hood was pried open, officers discovered two females and a male within the engine compartment.

A woman found in the engine sustained burns to her right arm, abdominal area and left leg during the trip, officials said. She was transported to medical facility for medical care.

The driver was charged with alien smuggling and transported to the Metropolitan Correctional Center. The vehicle was seized by officers.

If the driver wouldn't have given "inconsistent" responses, that would have been three more illegals added to the 20+ million already here. I can just imagine how many vehicles hiding illegals are waved through daily at the border.
