Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) introduced H.R. 4462:

"To amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require an
individual to provide proof that the individual is a citizen of the United
States as a condition of registering to vote in elections for Federal
office...." The bill specifies that a Driver's License is not acceptable
as identification (Sec. 3(c)(4)). (Introduced Dec. 7, 2005)

H.R. 4462 would solve a very urgent concern for all U.S. citizens, and
that is the potential widespread registration of illegal aliens to vote in
our upcoming 2006 national elections.

However, this bill currently has no co-sponsors, and was referred to the
House Committee on House Administration.

Thus, I think it would be worthwhile to write state representatives
requesting that they co-sponsor Rep. Gringrey's bill. And, any further
positive support and publicity which could be given to this important
legislation would be a real plus at this critical time.
