Immigration detention center to close in LA area

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal authorities say they will cease using a 1,400-bed detention center in Los Angeles County to house immigration detainees after failing to reach an agreement with the sheriff on standards.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement Friday that the so-called Mira Loma facility in Lancaster would be vacated by Nov. 27.
ICE says the Sheriff's Department terminated the facility's contract after lengthy efforts to negotiate a new deal.
The Sheriff's Department did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
ICE has roughly 2,300 beds to house immigration detainees throughout Southern California after signing agreements in recent years with the Orange County Sheriff's Department and a private contractor in Adelanto.
