BOSTON — Mayor Thomas Menino, who often invokes his heritage as the grandson of an Italian immigrant, was one of the first local leaders in the country to embrace a federal program intended to improve community safety by deporting dangerous immigrant criminals.

But five years after Boston became a testing ground for the fingerprinting program, known as Secure Communities, Mr. Menino is one of the latest local officials to sour on it and seek to withdraw. He found that many immigrants the program deported from Boston, though here illegally, had committed no crimes. The mayor believed it was eroding hard-earned ties between Boston’s police force and its melting-pot mix of ethnic neighborhoods.

Last month, Mr. Menino sent a letter to the program with a blunt assessment. “Secure Communities is negatively impacting public safety,â€

    so--we need--

so--we need-- to let those who violate our laws , continue to live here, in violation, so that we can have help in arresting the really bad guys that the others brought with them??

That is how the mayor of Boston and its police force lives up to its sworn duty to protect the citizens of their community.

How about, if the illegals were not here, that criminal, element would not be either?? What am I missing here? How about, in the course of your daily duties mister policeman, you check the status of those who violate and laws and if they are not citizens, arrest them and call ICE???

What am I missing here?? How about Ms Teacher, that little boy or girl in class cannot speak English, what are the odds the child and his/her parents are here illegally. I know you are obliged to teach, you are not obliged to conceal a violation of US civil law..

And Mr Mayor- so your grandparents were immigrants--what's the big deal that makes you think so stupidly?? Did they come here legally?? If so, why do you compare that with a violation of our law??? Did they come here illegally?? Does that grant you the right to make your own law or ignore your oath of office and say it's okay??

Are you going to tell me it' a civil violation, not criminal?? Well, the minute they take one cent of free care or help or take a job, they are criminals.

Shame on you Menino. Your Liberal roots are showing.

The good news is that, even in 'liberal' circles, illegal immigration is turning into a very unpopular subject. Whih is probably why Obama doesn't push harder openly, but does things covertly to placate the radical Latino wing. The blogs I read usually have a widespread popular opposition to illegal aliens or to granting them citizenship status. The "experts" and activists might endorse it; the people, though, say "No."

It seems to me that Boston, NYC, LA etc. all banked on their IA populations and allowed them to grow so big that if the IAs had to leave it would take at least 2 years, probably longer, for the economic impact to subside.

Illegals are CRIMINALS and need to be prosecuted. Why wait till they break more laws? Preemptive strikes to stop future crimes need to be done. That means to remove illegals before they commit more crimes.
