Border Patrol agents apprehended 105 illegal immigrants Wednesday in the Baboquivari Mountains southwest of Tucson.

At 6:30 a.m., agents using a mobile surveillance system spotted what appeared to be three groups of illegal border crossers moving up into the Baboquivari Mountains close to the U.S.-Mexico border, said Border Patrol spokesman David Jimarez.

Agents called for help from a Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine helicopter. When the helicopter spotted the groups, they bunched together into one group and by 11 a.m. agents had apprehended them. They were a mix of illegal immigrants from Mexico, Central and South America, he said.

They were taken to the Tucson station to be fingerprinted and set up for return to their home countries.

Through the first six months of fiscal year 2010, agents in the Tucson Sector had made 119,000 apprehensions, up from the 112,000 they had made at the same time last year, Jimarez said.
