Migrant teenager, run over by train, has hope for recovery of crushed foot

Two Saturdays ago, just after dark, a group of undocumented immigrants scrambled out of the brush alongside a railroad bed in Rio Rico and began to climb aboard a northbound freight train.

But when the man acting as the group’s guide tried to hoist 18-year-old Ines Flores Melo onto a train car, he lost his grip and she tumbled to the ground, the car’s steel wheels crushing her left foot and twisting it away from her leg.
