    Immigration panel misses the point

A blue-ribbon panel formed Monday by Gov. Corzine to help immigrants assimilate into New Jersey life already has a big problem: The governor failed to differentiate between legal and illegal immigrants.

Corzine said his aim is to "look after the human rights and civil rights of each and every immigrant." He could do that by clamping down on the employers who hire them illegally and landlords who look the other way when too many are crowded into a dwelling that's too small. That would help turn off the "vacancy" sign that encourages more illegal immigrants to crowd into New Jersey towns and places an unfair burden on citizens and the legal immigrants who pay the taxes that support them.

If Corzine really wanted to help the taxpayers and legal immigrants in this state — and address civil rights problems at the same time — he would tell the panel its first order of business is to devise a way to find and punish the employers who are hiring the illegal immigrants, usually at substandard wages and without paying state, federal and Social Security taxes. The second agenda item should be fining landlords whose rentals exceed permissible occupancy, often creating unsafe and unsanitary conditions.

Assemblyman Christopher Connors, R-Ocean, criticized the creation of a panel that will do nothing to solve the problems of illegal immigration. Corzine's panel "is essentially being established to pave the way for a better life for illegal immigrants," Connors said. Instead, government should be directing its energies to securing the borders and going after people who hire illegal immigrants, he said.

New Jersey's illegal population has spread beyond the borders of the few towns where muster zones provide a job bank for unscrupulous employers. The rising number of people here illegally has forced taxpaying citizens and legal immigrants to cover the social costs of people who have no legal right to be here in the first place.

Illegal immigrants know that once they've crossed the border, they'll get free schooling for their children, charity health care and employers who will pay them under the table while the government turns a blind eye.

Corzine is encouraging that with a blue ribbon-lined welcome mat. He is setting up the taxpayers he's supposed to be serving for a bigger influx of people who take from the system without giving anything back.

    COMMENTS:
What the panel should be looking into is the Federal Government’s Revolution in governing.

They should look into the Treason involved in the recent illegal passing of the agriculture bill that gives social services to illegal aliens. Should we also be subsidizing their illegal labor?

They should look into the fraud involved in the comprehensive immigration bills of the past that have only had the amnesty and gravy parts doled out to the illegal invaders while they never do get around to the enforcement parts. If this happened in the private sector they would have been charged with fraud long ago!

Or the tax money going to race groups like La Raza.

Or the Federal Governments involvement in the conspiracy to create sanctuary cities around the United States.

As for these New Jersey Polls people are talking about. I’m sure the people of New Jersey don’t need a panel to expose the fraudulent claims of those. If you want maybe a head count out in the streets would be a better way to get a recount!

He is like every other democrat and some republicans. THEY WANT THE VOTE!

They don't care about us legals. These politicians should have to live the life of the working class to see what it is like. No more bull about how they worked their way up. If they did then they really forgot what life in the real USA is all about!

A measure of Corzine's folly on this issue can be seen in two of the panelists, Assm. Joe Vas and Martin Perez. The former hatched a cockamamie idea of giving illegals drivers licenses as an election ploy in his failed run for Congress. The latter is a Latino activist who has sponsored and participated in marches supporting illegal alien rights.

    Good appointments, Corzine.

    Not.

Teddy Roosevelt warned Americans about the threat of the foreign invasion………however, now that the dumbing down of our Nation has been accomplished by the Socialist Teachers Union, we can no longer “thinkâ€
