Immigration Raid Targets KC Nightclub Patrons

(Kansas City) -- Local authorities will only say there was a police presence, but DHS confirms an immigration compliance check at a Kansas City nightclub.

Early this morning, federal agents walked into the Club Oasis, at 28th and Southwest Blvd in Kansas City.

Those patrons without proper ID were given citations, and those without ID and a confirmed criminal record, were taken into custody.

According to witnesses, at least 20 people were arrested and as many as 200 cited and could be facing deportation.

ICE Public Affairs Officer Gail Montenegro says assistance was requested by local authorities due to recent reports of violence at that location.

During the compliance check, ICE took 20 Mexican and Guatemalan nationals into custody for administrative immigration violations.

The largest ever immigration raid in US history came in 2008 at a Postville, Iowa meat processing plant, when 390 people were cited for being in the country illegally.
