I have a lot of issues with Rich Perry, but his answer to the immigration question the other night in my mind completely disqualifies him for the nomination. Here’s the transcript:

BLITZER: Governor Perry, I’m going to move on to Governor Huntsman in a second, but you did sign legislation giving some illegal immigrants in Texas the opportunity to have in-state tuition at universities in Texas, explain what that…

PERRY: In the state of Texas, if you’ve been in the state of Texas for three years, if you’re working towards your college degree, and if you are working and pursuing citizenship in the state of Texas, you pay in-state tuition there.

And the bottom line is it doesn’t make any difference what the sound of your last name is. That is the American way. No matter how you got into that state, from the standpoint of your parents brought you there or what have you. And that’s what we’ve done in the state of Texas. And I’m proud that we are having those individuals be contributing members of our society rather than telling them, you go be on the government dole.
This answer is so wrong and disingenuous it makes my head explode. It’s hard to even know where to start. He begins by accusing everyone who would oppose this policy of racism, implying that they only reason that we don’t want to allow illegal aliens to enjoy in-state tuition is because we don’t like the “sound of their last nameâ€

"Perry was the first GOP candidate that the crowd booed tonight, and they started to boo as he rationalized his support for in-state tuition for illegal aliens," William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration Public Action Committee said in a written statement.

"We are about to see what we will call the 'Perry Plunge' in the polls," Gheen said, citing a survey from Rasmussen Reports that showed 81 percent of Americans oppose tuition subsidies for illegal immigrants.

It can’t be both. Either they are on welfare or they are working, which is it Mr. Perry? The answer doesn’t matter though; in both cases, we the American people lose.
Actually, it can be "both" and it is because they get welfare and a host of benefits through their anchor babies, while usurping jobs. It's worse than our corrupted politicans would ever have us to believe!

Video: Perry Tours Border With Greta van Susteren
    by Thanh Tan
    5/24/2011

Gov. Rick Perry answers a reporter's question about his presidential aspirations during a bill signing on May 27, 2011.

On Tuesday afternoon, Gov. Rick Perry held a public signing ceremony at the Capitol and praised the passage of a bill that will require most women seeking an abortion to have a sonogram. He unsuccessfully tamped down buzz about a 2012 presidential run by saying he is focused on the current legislative session. He gave no indication that within hours, he would be heading south to tour the Texas-Mexico border with Fox News' Greta van Susteren for a two-part interview to air tonight and tomorrow.

With helicopters flying above, Perry told van Susteren that President Barack Obama and Congress have not done enough to prevent illegal immigration and violence associated with drug cartels from crossing the border. He said it is a place for people "with close ties" to Al Qaeda, including Yemen, Pakistan and China, to enter the U.S.

"It is an absolute national disgrace," Perry said. "If you don't have boots on the ground, you cannot defend that border." On his relationship with Obama, Perry said they "correspond, but I don't know whether he listens."

The Fox News web site labels Perry a "border-strong presidential candidate," but the clip does not include his response to the talk of a possible 2012 race. Perhaps that's coming tomorrow night in part two of the series.

Watch the interview with Perry and a report in which van Susteren said she was allowed to attend a briefing with the governor at the Texas Ranger Command Center in Edinburg.

Perry put up a convincing front with Greta , as he has been doing for some time. DO NOT BE FOOLED !! He is a very savvy politician and like a magician can get you to focus on the left hand while the right hand is up to no good. We here in Texas have put up with him because with the exception of his stance on Immigration and the vaccine thing he has done some good things for Texas. Some people who do not live here need to understand that the Governor of Texas really does not have that much power. In reality the Lt. Governor has more power in that he presides over the Senate and is elected separate from the Governor. While fiscally conservative Perry has proven time and again he is socially liberal. The Illegal student bill providing in state tuition and state funds to illegals in 2001 is a prime example. The lip service paid to the recent sanctuary cities bill is another. NO BILL WAS EVER MENTIONED BY PERRY REGARDING E VERIFY. While he called the Sanctuary bill an " emergency bill" he backed away and distanced himself from it during regular session and did nothing in the special session to encourage it's passage. He is obviously playing both sides of the issue , and I hope those on either side see it for what it is. As far as the vaccine thing goes , it probably relates back to his association with Merck and does have to do with the money. That decision had nothing to do with his political or ideological views , Simply a case of greasing the palm. It is surprising to most in Texas , from the standpoint that such a seasoned political veteran could have such a lapse in judgement.

"and if you are working and pursuing citizenship in the state of Texas"

    What an ambiguous statement.
Illegal aliens remain exempt from American laws, while they DEMAND American rights...
