Immigration Theory #1: A Mexican Plot?

After the 2004 election there was rumbling from the media and the left that the “blue states break away from the rest of the country and form their own “enlightened nation. Although talk of secession was an angry tongue-in-cheek statement by some disappointed actors and political left wingers there was pseudo-seriousness in their claim. The “blue masses took things very hard as they realized that they, and their perspective, were actually the minority point of view in America . Conservative hosts humorously took pleasure in reminding their blue state brethren that they may have industry and Hollywood but the Red states have the guns. But talk of secession filled the airwaves for a week or so and faded into the obscurity of history once again. Or has it?

Secession is nothing new nor is it illegal. In fact, it’s a right which was built into several state constitutions prior to ratifying the US Constitution in 1788. By the time Abraham Lincoln became the 16th President in 1861 several southern states had already peacefully seceded from the Union . These states declared themselves a nation, established a government, elected a leader, and drafted their own constitution. These states: Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi formed their own nation. Their basis for lawful secession was the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution. The 10th amendment states that powers not expressly given to the federal government from the states remain state powers. Since the Constitution never mentions secession it is thereby a power reserved to the state. Consequently, President Lincoln’s decision to use arms against any state to strong-arm its compliance to the Union was an unconstitutional act since the federal government isn’t given the right to force any people to become part of the Union or prevent any people from leaving the Union . The act of force by Lincoln prompted Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Arkansas to join the Confederate Union against the North on legitimate constitutional grounds. The result of Lincoln ’s decision was 623,026 American dead but the Union was preserved and federal government had expanded its role in unprecedented and unlawful fashion.

Today the United States may be facing a serious and more subtle threat involving secession. The flood of illegal Mexicans, with the consent of the Mexican government, into the southern United States is staggering. It is guess-timated, because no one really knows, that the monthly crossings into Arizona alone from Mexico are between 8,000 and 10,000 people. A minimum of 96,000 undocumented people enter the US from Mexico and fan out across the nation for purposes unknown. These people are without insurance, jobs, or respect for US laws. The impact of these people can be felt in healthcare, welfare, education, transportation, voter fraud, gang activity, drug trafficking, and people smuggling. All over the southwest due to the sheer number of people states are seeking to legitimize illegal aliens by affording them equal rights as American citizens, providing water station in the middle of the desert, attempting to issue drivers licenses, and building work centers for “undocumented immigrants. Liberal governors who sympathize with the illegal aliens use the lack of federal funding as an excuse not to protect its citizenry or its citizen’s property rights and rights to social benefits.

The Federal Government is unwilling to make a serious effort to permanently stop this invasion from the south. To remedy matters the best minds in Washington, in the past, have offered amnesty to millions of illegal Mexicans. This amnesty has only made matters worse as larger numbers of Mexicans pack into America waiting for the day they too will be amnestied by an unconcerned American government. Today our President offers not punishment or deportation for Illegal aliens but a guest worker program. If the US southern border is not strictly regulated the guest worker program as proposed by President Bush will only make matters worse than they already are.

The nature of the Mexican effort in immigration matters is to influence America’s government and laws. Mexico's intent is plain to see for any who looks because the Mexican government condones the illegal trafficing and doesn’t attempt to hide their actions. For example, one of California ’s own Supreme Court judges, the “Honorable Teresa Sanchez-Gordon, converses and has done interviews on Mexican radio with Vicente Fox extolling what she is trying to accomplish for their people. All over the southwest states seek to legitimize illegal aliens by giving them rights, issuing drivers licenses, and building day labor centers. Americans of Mexican decent are viewing themselves like Judge Sanchez-Gordon as dual citizens while illegal Mexicans are making no effort to adapt, adjust, and conform into American Society.

As the American southwest continues to devolve into northern Mexico the American population will gradually move away. Arizona is currently nearing fourty pecent hispanic population. Americans will move to places where they do not receive Spanish telephone solicitations, see Spanish or dual language signs, or listen as English becomes the exception in own their neighborhoods. As the American south nears a more saturated Mexican population and as increasing numbers of sympathetic Americans of Mexican decent attain prominence in local business and grow in influence in local government, its only natural that the American culture will fade and eventually be replaced by one which better resembles Mexican customs, ideals, and traditions.

How long will it be once states like Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and California are seeing themselves more like the Mexicans than American’s? How long before those states will want align themselves either independently or completely with Mexico? Will “ America the liberal, “America the appeaser, or “ America the multi-cultural condone and passively allow such an action? Every indication from previous Government inaction is that the government may very well permit this to happen. There are no serious border patrols on the US-Mexico border. The concerned citizens of the United States who banded together to patrol the Arizona border because “the government won’t do it are labeled by politicians and the media not as patriots but border vigilante groups. Be that as it may, the reality is that many people in the southwest have lost hope that any government entity will protect domestic American interests, American soverignty, and private property.

The Government today, unlike Lincoln ’s administration, will recognize, debate, and eventually will choose to hide behind the 10th Amendment. It will watch and express deep concern as these American states lawfully and freely begin to leave the Union. Even the mighty George W. Bush seems unwilling to take a hard-line stance against illegal migration in the US. Why? Because contemporary government regardless of party is saturated with some who seek money and power, others who hate America’s idealism, and still more who believe that the US is just another country in a world growing smaller every day.

Will future American governments have the strength, the nationalism, and the patriotism to make the tough call to forcefully retain states like Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and California if those state freely chose to secede? Or has the government become too diplomatic? Too concerned with what the world thinks? Have the Americans who make up the government come to dismiss the nation’s uniqueness in lieu of more conformity with Europe? Would the American people permit a violent confrontation to hold the nation together once again? Judging from recent America history and the nature of contemporary politicians and the spinelessness of a good portion of the voting public one can only conclude … maybe.
