U.S. Citizen Without Social Security Number Suing Government

U.S. Citizen Without Social Security Number Suing Government

EDINBURG- Carlos Munoz is a U.S. Citizen who grew up in Reynosa. He wants to get a job but can't because he doesn't have a social security number.

Munoz tells us he was born in Pharr. His family took him to Reynosa when he was just a baby. He went to school and got married in Reynosa. He says finding a job to support his family is impossible.

Munoz brought his wife and son back to the place he was born. He says his American dream came to a grinding halt.

Munoz says he's been trying to get his social security card for three years. He says the social security administration don't say no; they don't say yes.

Eliott Tucker and the South Texas civil rights project are representing Munoz against the social security administration.

Tucker tells us people usually get their social security numbers when they are children. Its harder when you are an adult. The law says the agency has to give you a number if you produce the right paperwork. Munoz gave the social security administration copies of his id's, birth certificate, and school documents for every year he's been alive.

Eliott Tucker says he's hearing a lot of stories of how children born in the U.S. ended up in Mexico. He says their parents went to work in the maquilladoras. Now those children are grown and can't find work so they are coming back to the U.S.

Tucker says several other people have called with stories similar to Carlos Munoz. They may also sue the social security administration.

I wonder why it doesn't state his age? How has he worked and filed taxes for all these years?

    Something is very fishy here.
