Congressman Yells 'You Lie' During Obama Speech
The outburst caused Obama to pause briefly before he went on with his speech

President Obama's address Wednesday to Congress was greeted warmly with applause from Democrats, but also some disruptions, including one moment in which a congressman accused Obama of lying.

South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted "You lie!" after Obama had talked about illegal immigrants.

Wilson's outburst caused Obama to pause briefly before he went on with his speech. Overhead in the visitors' gallery, first Lady Michelle Obama shook her head from side to side.

Obama's speech also drew some cheers from Republicans, primarily when he spoke of tort reform.

President Clinton also faced critical Republicans when he addressed Congress on health care reform in 1993. For example, they laughed at a remark about using Congress' deficit projections.

"Well, you can laugh, my fellow Republicans, but I will point out that the Congressional Budget Office is normally more conservative," Clinton said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wasn't immediately aware who yelled "you lie" during Obama's speech, but she told FOX News that she would not move to sanction anyone for it.

A voice from the floor on illegal immigrants: 'Lie'

One of the most persistent conservative concerns about health care legislation is that it will provide health care to illegal immigrants -- and the heated claim spilled onto the floor of President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress this evening, where one Republican member called the president a liar for denying it.

"There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false - the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally," President Obama said.

A loud voice from the Republican side of the hall answered, "Lie" -- my colleague Glenn Thrush reports it was Rep. Joe Wilson (R - S.C.) -- drawing a second "It's not true," from Obama and a shake of Nancy Pelosi's head.

The bill is designed to exclude those immigrants, though some Republicans have called for more explicit bans on funding for illegal immigrants and have claimed the bill will funnel money to illegal immigrants.

FactCheck.org described those claims as "false" and noted that one version of the legislation already includes an explicit bar on federal funding for illegal immigrants' health care.

fact check is unreliable.

The bill has one sentence in it that says illegals won't get health care but their is nothing in the bill to enforce that statement. The Rep's offered a bill that added the enforcement piece that would protect American tax payers from being saddled with the cost of health care for illegals but the Dems rejected the bill. So illegals will get "free" health care via our tax dollars. That's why the Rep yelled out "lie" and it's "false".

His conduct was disrespectful and did not reflect the ideals of a true congressman.

When you've a government that doesn't even enforce the laws, does anybody think an eligbility statement will make a difference? There aren't any enforcement provisions in the bill except those to fine Americans if they don't chip in on alien healthcare. Screw factcheck.

"H.R. 3200: Sec 246 — NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS

Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States."

This does not say illegals will not get healthcare. It will not stop any illegal immigrant from getting healthcare. It prevents them from getting "affordability credits". Those are credit alllowances based on income.

The last sentence in the section states that translation assistance will be provided for those who cannot speak English.

From the citizenship requirements of the US:
Language

"Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English words in ordinary use. Some applicants may be exempt because of age or mental condition."

Applicant could be here legally, but no requirement in health plan for proof of legitimacy.

No more so then Obama for lying about IA's NOT getting Health Insurance through this Bill.

That's just the last lie Obama has told, there have been others to proceed it.

Big military deployment going out down here. Over the next few days, we are sending a bunch of Marines into the field. That sounds like he's ending the war like he campaign promised.
