Indian Immigrant Sues Edison NJ over Deportation
I remember when this happened. This "ILLEGAL" was a publically known wise mouthed thorn, and picked the wrong officer to mess with this time...
Indian Immigrant Sues Edison over Deportation
EDISON, N.J. (AP) -- A former Edison resident is suing the township and its police department, claiming he was deported to his native India in retaliation for complaining about police brutality.
The civil lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Newark federal court on behalf of Rajnikant Parikh _ who remains in India _ by the New York-based Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, according to attorney Alexander Saingchin.
``This is an example of a larger problem that's going on in New Jersey _ the fact that state and local authorities feel the need to enforce immigration laws,'' Saingchin said. ``Mr. Parikh's situation underscores why so many people are afraid to go to the police, even as a victim.''
The suit claims that Parikh was arrested with excessive force by Edison Officer Michael Dotro and others on July 4, 2006, after an argument with the officer over the ticketing of cars in the neighborhood.
Parikh filed an unlawful assault claim with the department the following day, according to the suit.
The suit further alleges that Dotro then arranged to have Parikh deported with help from the officer's brother, Sam Dotro, a lawyer with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Parikh was arrested by immigration officials a month after filing the brutality complaint. The suit says he was approached by immigration officials while holding an American flag and a sign that read ``We are followers of Mahatma Gandhi'' during a rally outside the Edison municipal building to protest his treatment and the increasingly strained relations between police and Edison's sizable Indian American community.
An internal investigation by Edison police found no wrongdoing on the part of Dotro or the department, but did find that Dotro had contact with his brother regarding Parikh's immigration case, according to news reports.
Edison communications director Jerry Barca said Wednesday that he was aware of the latest lawsuit and that the township had been facing accusations from Parikh for years.
Barca said he was speaking on behalf of Officer Dotro, the police department and the township in declining to comment on the current litigation.

Americans are going to be very surprised if they ever find out how many illegals, of other than Latino nationalities, are in our country. Chinese, Vietnamese, Africans, East Indians; you name the country and we have plenty of illegals from there, more millions of them, in addition to the 20 million, or more, Hispanics.. The U.S. needs to do some serious purging of illegals to flush these people out of our country.
and the sooner, the better!!
