CBP in Calexico Finds More Than $600,000 Worth of Cocaine in Dashboard

Calexico, California — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers conducting inspections at the Calexico East port of entry on Monday seized 78 pounds of cocaine, valued at $624,000, in the dashboard of a vehicle.

At about 9:30 p.m., a CBP officer and detector dog were screening vehicles waiting in line to be inspected, when the canine alerted to a 2003 Honda Accord. Officers escorted the driver, a 53-year-old Mexicali man, and the vehicle for further inspection.

Officers searched the vehicle; they discovered and then extracted 30 wrapped packages of cocaine from the dashboard of the Honda.

The man was arrested for the alleged smuggling attempt.

CBP seized the cocaine and conveyance.
