The baby was taken to University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center in good condition, said Police Officer Amina Greer.

WGN-Ch. 9 reported this morning that Walter Gniadek, the owner of the home in the 3500 block of South Honore Street, found the baby on his front porch with a note written in Spanish saying that the boy's mother was unable to care for him.

Gniadek said he saw the child's mother walk away, describing her as young as 14. Police have yet to locate her.

Under state law, a baby may be left at a hospital, fire station or certain other public buildings with no questions asked, but not at a private home.
