Immigration raid
By: MELISSA HAYES Managing Editor
Federal immigration officers made several arrests in New Egypt last week following an investigation.
A group of immigrants in handcuffs on Main Street near the Bank of America were seen by a resident around 5:45 a.m. June 1.

Michael Gilhooly, northeast communications director for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said he couldn't discuss the details of the investigation and he was sure of how many individuals were arrested.
"We've made a number of arrests in that area of New Jersey over the past week," he said. "I don't have a number for arrests. I do know there were some arrests for immigration violations, as there are every week."
ICE was created in March 2003 and is the largest branch of the Department of Homeland Security. The agency was created after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and combines the former Immigration and Naturalization Service and the former United States Custom Service.
Gilhooly said it is policy not to release the names of the arrested or the details of the investigation.
"Whether they are targets that we have developed information on or whether they're individuals that we happen upon during the course of an investigation, if they're illegally here they have no reason to be surprised that we're going to arrest them," he said.
Gilhooly said officers are constantly making immigration arrests in the state.
"All over New Jersey we are routinely involved," he said. "We routinely arrest people who have violated immigration law."
Gilhooly said the arrested will be processed for removal.
