Counting illegals in census shapes congressional districts

"Lawmakers Concerned That Illegal Immigrants Counted in Census Will Shape Congressional Districts
    Friday, April 03, 2009

(CNSNews.com) - Congressional Republicans who spoke with CNSNews.com on Thursday expressed concern that illegal immigrants who will be counted in the 2010 census could distort the apportionment of congressional districts.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), however, told CNSNews.com that he does not “know that there is a problem.â€

The acting director of the U.S. Census Bureau, Thomas Mesenbourg, told CNSNews.com on Wednesday that the bureau intends to work with community organizations to ensure that all illegal aliens in the United States are counted in the 2010 Census.

The current 435 House seats are divided among the states in proportion to their population, which is determined by the decennial census. States with more people get more seats in the U.S. House.

This means that a state harboring more illegal immigrants could gain more House seats as long as the Census Bureau finds the illegal aliens and counts them. It also means that the illegal alien population in the United States during a census year has the potential to alter the regional and philosophical balance of power in Congress.
DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE A PROBLEM WITH THIS PROCESS?

The Federal Government already knows how many illegal immigrants are here in our country. (Too many!)

Do I see a problem with this process? That's an understatement! This is at the heart of our entire political system! Counting illegals ( who are not identified as illegals) threatens to undermine our political system, since those numbers are used to shape districts and award seats in the House. Those seats are then likely to be filled by those with an ethno-centric agenda to promote, almost always detrimental to this country as a whole.

I suspect this pratice of counting illegals in our Census has assisted individuals like Gutierrez (4th district) in Chicago, and Sanchez (47th district) California in (to name only a few) getting elected.

Gutierrez is on his nation-wide amnesty tour, seemingly in an effort to represent those who have no legal basis to be in this country. The very presence of those whom Gutierrez advocates on behalf of, are in this country in violation of, at the minimum, Federal immigration law, not including our sovereignty.

While Sanchez has not yet embarked on a nation-wide amnesty tour, her positions and votes on issues pertaining to illegal immigration have been consistent with those of her more vocal counterpart, Gutierrez.

The following statements by our elected officials who are seemingly dismissive of this pratice is nothing short of alarming:

Please Count the Illegal Aliens! Don't count them towards redistricting. To do that, you are going to have to check immigration status and ask citizenship questions.

Counting them without determining immigration status is gerrymandering.

It is not uncommon to ask citizenship questions on the US Census and it has been done in the past. What's so hard about it now?
