    Immigration crackdown sends families packing
    By MONIKA DIAZ

IRVING – The city of Irving’s crackdown on rundown apartments and illegal immigration may be driving some families out of town.

Oscar Alvarado said it is definitely the reason he has decided to pack up and move on.

“I am leaving for another city because they are getting tough,â€

They may have lost $2 million but there are 650 students less to care for. So it will even out. People just look at the immidiate loss. It will be tough for a short time, but they have to recognize that they will have to make adjustments instead of trying to use this as an excuse to keep illegals around.

650 students at the cost of 2 millions dollars?

Looks like that 2004 Texas report, prepared by Comptroller Strayhorn's office, on the cost of illegal aliens was a very low estimate.

A city the size of Dallas has over 100,000 illegal aliens would have at least 50,000 children in school. Based on the above number, for every 325 children it cost a million dollars, therefore, each child cost 3,076.92 and at 50k would be 153,846,000. That's a very low estimate for the cost of educating their children in Texas. I'm certain that I have underestimated the number of children of illegal aliens in Texas schools.

Ah, and finally the American children will get a better education as the teachers will have more individual time for their American students, and soon they should be able to cut property tax with out the extra burden on the schools. At least our schools are funded through property taxes.

According to the NEA, per-pupil costs for K-12 education in Texas are $7,786 in fiscal year 2002-2003
    (Source - http://www.cpa.state.tx.us/comptrol/wws ... urces.html )

    7786 X 650 = $5,060,900 in unspent education money.

Subtract $2 million in state funding and Irving's local taxpayers are saving over $3 million!

    What a DEAL!!!

I am always so flabbergasted when someone makes these assinine statements 'we'll loose $2M'.

But what bothers me more is that some news organization would put it out there, without pointing out the very obvious that there will be less students and therefore, no loss.

It will even out quicker if the budget is trimmed. Less students results in less supplies and TEACHERS !
