Monday Bush Will Offer Concession on Immigration

    Bush offers concession on immigration
In search for votes, scramble on for deal on mandatory border money

The "Dreams Across America Tour", scheduled to show up in Washington on June 19, is a caravan of several dozen legal immigrants who will cross the country by train while making stops to tell their stories of coming to the United States.

    Updated: 7:24 a.m. PT June 14, 2007
WASHINGTON - President Bush, hoping to salvage immigration overhaul legislation, has agreed to an upfront infusion of money for federal border security efforts in a concession designed to win over skeptical conservatives.

Bush supports setting aside all the fees and penalties in the bill solely for tougher security on the border and workplace enforcement, White House press secretary Tony Snow said Thursday. The president on Monday morning will make the announcement of his backing for an amendment that two Republican senators have proposed to accomplish this end.

The provision would immediately divert $4.4 billion toward border security, with that amount to be paid back once the new fees are in place, Snow said.

The group behind the compromise was hoping to reach agreement to allow votes on a limited set of changes from the Republican and Democratic sides in exchange for a commitment from GOP holdouts to let debate on the bill resume. Architects have argued their so-called "grand bargain" could collapse under the weight of too many amendments, or those designed as "poison pills."

The legislation stalled last week when only seven GOP senators supported a Democratic bid to limit debate - called a cloture vote - and expedite a final vote.

Snow said the White House feels good about its chances for bringing the bill back to the floor now.

"We feel confident there are going to be enough votes for cloture," he said.

The mandatory border security funding amendment, proposed by GOP Sens. John Kyl of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, is designed to show that the extra border security and workplace enforcement measures in the bill have a dedicated funding stream. That way they would not be subject to the whims of the yearly congressional appropriations process.

    Hush Money?

You know, whenever my dysfunctional dad wanted to get us off his back, he'd just throw money at us to divert our attention from the real problem we were trying to deal with. Bush is offering in effect Hush Money to the senators. We need to tell Bush to hush up.

Bush or any subsequent president will never secure the border, never, ever, no way, no how. They will never enforce employer verifications, ever. All that will happen is immediate amnesty for all illegals with the instant probationary Z-Visa. So why would any illegal sign up for the green card, Z-Visa or citizenship when the probationary one gives them all they want immediately gor free?

This will allow them to get a Social Security card, a driver's license no doubt, access to all social services, all the instant this bill is signed into law. They will get every single benefit of being a citizen or legal resident without having to learn English, without having to pay any fine or pay any back taxes. Think about it, if they get all the benefits for free with the probationary visa, why would they pay any fine to get the same exact benefits?

Mark my words, there will never be any real enforcement efforts, the same as it is now. Bush even said to a group of builders and contractors today, they will not be required to be "document verifiers", to which they all applauded loudly. This is surely code for 'hey, want to hire illegals, no problemas, we will never require you to verify documents for legal employment'.

Well, they are raiding businesses left and right now in order to persuade people they are serious. It would be funny if that outrages the Mexicans so much their support decreases.

Why would anyone even consider negotiating with anyone that never gets around to keeping their word on any of the immigration laws of the past?

    What would be the point?

This is like the people that got caught by their own rules while playing games as children. Every time they would get caught in one of their old rules they would start in on a big speech for a new rule. They never would pay up on being caught on the old rule.

No one plays with them long.

Just what are we still doing dealing with these liars?
