If this assimilation was truly happening, I and the rest of US citizens wouldn't have to Press 1 for English every time we visit a grocery or other retail store, a bank or when we call our local utility companies or any other business nowadays for that matter. Not only this, but when I recently bought a new vacuum cleaner, separate booklets for both English and Spanish were included. Ditto for other products as well as new equipment we received for my child's diabetic condition.

I thought "assimilation" meant they need to learn to speak English!?!?!?!

I just can't hardly read any more of these "stories".
