You know what, Frederick County Commissioner Charles A. Jenkins (R) is saying and asking the questions we all want to ask, but do not out of fear of offending someone.
Since when did illegal acts have rights?

Sure, you have the right to defend yourself and face your accuser, but when the proof is shown, you must pay the consequences.

Commissioner Jenkins is not attacking anyone or anything; he is trying to save tax-paying citizens and use the taxes we pay in the most appropriate fashion possible for the benefit of all of us. He is asking for accountability of illegal acts. Why and what is the problem?

Commissioner Jenkins is right. The federal government is doing nothing. So what if they pay for part of some of the programs his proposal targets? That is also our tax money, as is the state portion.

When the feds and state longer supply their respective portion, then it will fall once again on the shoulders of this county, as do so many other programs.

If advocates for illegal immigration will fight, then why can't advocates for legal immigration and citizens in general fight back?

If we don't start somewhere, then we may as well just shut up and empty our pockets instead of the slow painful bleed that is going on right now. I'll even concede to the collecting of numbers for one year until there is proof that this illegal act is a burden to tax-paying citizens.

Commissioner Jenkins, please don't let them beat you down.

If it's proven that illegal immigrants cost us nothing, then I will shut up and apologize, but until that day, I expect accountability from my elected officials, not just their justification as so why my taxes are going up to pay for others who are starting their stay in our country illegally.

    plan likely ‘dead on arrival’
by Sherry Greenfield | Staff Writer

Jenkins’ (R) prposal would require all county-funded agencies to verify that the people they help are in the country legally. The first-time commissioner wants the bill as part of the legislative package commissioners will submit in November to Frederick’s eight-member delegation to the General Assembly.

Commissioners cannot pass certain pieces of legislation. They must ask the senators and delegates who represent the county in Annapolis to introduce the bills to the General Assembly.

Though he predicted its demise, Weldon supports the legislation. The bill would allow the county to start collecting some accurate data on how many illegal immigrants are in the county, Weldon said.

Weldon believes immigration advocates will fight the bill because they do not want that information to be made public. ‘‘That information will become real obvious,â€
