Mexican federal police have arrested one of the main leaders in the Juárez drug cartel.

Luis Guillermo Castillo Rubio, known as "El Pariente" (the relative), was arrested last week in Queretaro in central Mexico, Mexican news media reported.

According to U.S. court documents, Castillo was allegedly the deputy leader of the Juárez cartel for reputed drug lord Vicente Carrillo Fuentes. Castillo was allegedly the boss of José Antonio "El Diego" Acosta Hernández, who was the cartel's plaza boss in Juárez and Chihuahua City.

Acosta Hernandez was recently sentenced in U.S. District Court in El Paso to 10 life terms in federal prison after pleading guilty to racketeering, drug and conspiracy charges, including authorizing 1,500 murders, three of those linked to the U.S. Consulate in Juárez.
