BALTIMORE —
A federal judge has dismissed a Salvadoran woman's suit alleging two Frederick County sheriff's deputies discriminated against her during a 2008 encounter that led to her arrest on an immigration warrant.
Judge Benson Everett Legg ruled Tuesday that the deputies did not violate the constitution and dismissed Roxana Santos' suit against the Frederick County Board of Commissioners, county sheriff and the deputies.
Santos claimed she was targeted because she looks Hispanic amid overzealous enforcement of immigration laws when deputies stopped to talk to her behind the Frederick market where she worked. The deputies say she caught their attention when she tried to hide behind a shipping container as they drove down the street. A background check revealed her illegal immigration status.
Santos' deportation was delayed by one year in October.
