CA: Immigration agents arrest 31 in Bakersfield area
Immigration agents arrest 31 in Bakersfield area
December 19, 2008
Word came to the Breaking News Team that a group of illegal immigrants was arrested this week and most of them were released because of housing issues. Well, that wasn't the case, but there was a three-day operation in the Bakersfield area that resulted in 31 illegal immigrants being arrested.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's local fugitive operations team conducted the operation from Tuesday through Thursday, said ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice.
Of the 31 people arrested, 12 have been deported, 11 were in ICE custody, five were released on bond, two were released on their own recognizance and are required to report to ICE regularly, and one person is on a more formal supervised release.
Some of the illegal immigrants also had criminal records, including some drug convictions, Kice said. All were expected to appear before an immigration judge.
