Judge rules against cook who wants to be legal resident, says restaurant can't afford him

ECORSE, Mich. (AP) — A judge has ruled against a Detroit-area cook who hopes his Mexican culinary skills can qualify him for legal U.S. residency.

Prospero Galeana's lawyer filed a notice of appeal this week, about a month after a federal judge said he wouldn't overturn the decision of immigration officials.

An Ecorse restaurant, Taco Especial, is willing to pay Galeana $52,000 a year. He's been working there for 18 years. The government doesn't believe the small restaurant can afford the salary.

The government awards green cards to people with skills that can't be matched by an American, but there are rules on pay. By applying, the 55-year-old Galeana has revealed himself to be an illegal immigrant, which could lead to deportation. He's a native of Mexico who entered the U.S. in 1988.

I'm sure the restaurant can find plenty of Mexicans who are here legally who also have the skills. Hope they get overrun with thousands who want to earn $52k/year.

Like we don't have Americans that are able to cook? This guy is a cook, not a chef! This restaurant should also face a little trouble for hiring an illegal!
E-Verify must be made mandatory for any business in the U.S. and it has to be retroactive!
