Immigrant Abduction Was A Hoax, Police Say

An Amber Alert for six-month-old Alexandria Garcia was cancelled Thursday after police determined that the report that she and five adult immigrants had been kidnapped from a home near Houston was a hoax.

Harris County sheriff's investigators were told four armed men kicked in the front door of a Houston-area house and took the five adults and the six-month-old girl.

A woman said she was among those abducted and said the kidnappers later released her.

Now sheriff's Sergeant James Parker says warrants have been issued charging two women with making a false claim.

He says the two appear to have fled Houston and may be in South Texas.

Parker says every detail the women provided has proved to be false.

Parker says investigators now don't believe there was a kidnapping and he says he's not sure there ever was a baby.

He says the kidnapping report may relate to a drug scheme.
