Contractor Hiring Bill Passes House

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A bill aimed at deterring government contractors from hiring undocumented workers has passed the Kentucky House.

The proposal would require contractors with state and local governments and school districts to participate in federal employment verification programs.

The bill passed the House 93-3 Wednesday and now goes to the Senate.

Rep. Bob Damron, the bill's lead sponsor, said contractors caught violating the measure could be prohibited from winning government contracts for five years.
