The Cost of Illegal Immigration

An unreleased report continues to stir up the immigration issue in Lexington and throughout the Bluegrass. Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry created a commission on immigration earlier this year. The committee’s report is expected by the end of the week and is expected to recommend Lexington issue local IDs for illegal aliens, for the Police Department to build better relationships with all segments of the community and for Police to not participate in a federal immigration law training program.

Wednesday morning the various issues surrounding illegal immigration and undocumented workers continued to be the primary topics of conversation on Lexington talk radio. So would deporting on illegal aliens and removing all undocumented workers from the work force save us money or create a bigger expense? Action News 36 spoke to University of Kentucky Economics Professor Ken Troske for answers. Troske says eliminating the problems and expenses created by undocumented workers would simply create different issues. â€
