Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement has identified a Hispanic man arrested Saturday in a domestic assault case.
After his arrest, Boyle County Sheriff’s Department placed the man who called himself Pedro Floras in immigration detainment because he could not be identified.
On Tuesday, ICE interviewed the man and identified him as Augusta Floras Mital, an illegal immigrant who has been deported to Mexico five times.
Sheriff Marty Elliott said ICE is keeping Floras Mital detained while they conduct a federal investigation.
“They are trying to verify the information they have,” Elliott said.
Flores Mital told officers Saturday that he is connected with a Mexican mafia.
Elliott said now that ICE has identified him, “they are trying to find out exactly what he’s affiliated with.”
Flores Mital will remain in detainment at the Boyle County Detention Center.
“He’s here under our charges but also still being detained by ICE,” Elliott said. “He’ll be here until ICE says he can be released.”
The sheriff’s department located Flores Mital after receiving a third-party call Saturday of domestic violence at 403 W. Second St. in Perryville. He is accused of assaulting Melinda Fowler.
Flores Mital, who was intoxicated, attempted to hide in a shed when officers arrived at the residence.
He was found by Sheriff Elliott and arrested on charges of fourth-degree domestic assault, fleeing or evading police, and alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Perryville assault suspect detained by ICE

PERRYVILLE — A Hispanic man believed to be wanted in other states is being detained at the Boyle County Detention Center by Immigration and Customs Enforcement after he was arrested in a domestic assault case.
On Saturday, Boyle County Sheriff’s Department responded about 1:47 p.m. to a third-party call of domestic violence at a residence at 403 W. Second St. in Perryville.
The caller said a man who goes by the name Pedro Floras was “planning to kill everyone in the house,” said Sheriff Marty Elliott.
Elliott said when officers arrived at the front door of the residence, Floras, 32, went out the back door. He then attempted to hide in a building out back.
“He threw a bunch of stuff over himself,” Elliott said. “I climbed up on all of the junk, and I saw an arm with a tattoo on it.”
Elliott said Floras was heavily intoxicated, did not have any identification or papers, and there is no reason to believe he’s a U.S. citizen.
“He goes by several different names and has a lot of what we call ‘prison tattoos,’” Elliott said. “There are so many flags going up on this person.”
Floras allegedly had assaulted his girlfriend, Melinda Fowler, ripped off her shirt and slapped her several times, Elliott said. She was bruised and red all over.
Floras’ girlfriend told police he is wanted in Texas and Chicago for serious crimes and that he has been in the Perryville area a long time.
Elliott said it’s believed Floras has committed some crime in Danville and the sheriff’s office will team up with Danville police detectives to investigate.
For now, Floras has been placed in immigration detainment so that an ICE agent can try to identify him.
“Rarely do we ask for an ICE detainer,” Elliott said.
But he said Floras’ lack of identification and behavior is cause for concern. Floras told police he is connected to a Mexican mafia and has out-of-state connections.
“He ran from us for a reason,” Elliott said. “Something is not right.”
Floras was arrested by officer Dustin Clem and charged with fourth-degree domestic assault, fleeing or evading police, and alcohol intoxication in a public place. Floras will not be released until he has been examined by ICE.
