KY: Legislation Targets Business Employing Illegal Immigrant

Legislation Targets Business Employing Illegal Immigrants

Legislation in Frankfort right now is taking a stab at illegal immigration, but it is taking a bigger stab at those who hire illegal immigrants.

House Bill 95 is modeled after a bill that passed in Arizona and penalizes businesses that employ illegal immigrants. Representative Rick Nelson is sponsoring the bill, he says on a first offense a business would receive probation, a second offense and you could lose your license for a week, but after a third offense, you could lose your business license permanently.

Enforcement would be carried out by Kentucky State Police, and Nelson says local law enforcement agencies would have the option. "It would set up a task force for Kentucky State Police, they would do all the investigation of these cases, they would turn those results over to the county attorneys, county attorneys would be responsible for prosecuting the people that hire the illegal aliens" Representative Nelson said.

Kentucky State Police tell Action News 36 they have concerns about the legislation as it is, saying they are already spread thin with their staff and budget.

SOB Just do a little bit of work in Lexington, Shelby County and Louisville. That will free up some of the budget for you.

It would take away from them sitting at bottoms of hills waiting on speeders as they do in TN.
