FRANKFORT, Ky. — A preliminary autopsy report says a Salvadoran immigrant died of asphyxia from hanging while in police custody.

The state medical examiner's report, obtained by the Lexington Herald-Leader, says 44-year-old Ana Romero hanged herself by the neck with a sheet in the Franklin County jail in Frankfort. She was awaiting deportation.

A final autopsy report is pending other information, including a toxicology report.

Jail personnel took Romero to a hospital late Aug. 21. The report says she was pronounced dead the next day.

State police arrested Romero on Jan. 14 after they said she gave immigration officials a false identification card.

That's a pretty extreme example of self-deportation.

I guess ICE and the cops are guilty of driving this woman to her profound desperation. Just watch the pro-illegal groups play this up.

My first thought was "how sad that she felt so stongly against going back to her home country that she'd do this". Second thought was "at least we won't have to pay for her anymore...."

Must be very very bad where she came from if she had rathered died than to return But we can not save them all we just can't do it.
