Kyl Blasts Dems on Border Funding

Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., is upset about Senate maneuvering on $3 billion for border security projects.

Senators are undecided whether the money should be part of a Department of Homeland Security spending bill or a spending bill for the Pentagon.

President Bush has threatened to veto the Homeland Security bill, and Democrats on Wednesday removed the border spending from the Pentagon bill.

``It is critical for Arizona that this funding be adopted," Kyl declared.

``Public opinion on this is very, very clear. They want us to continue with not just the fence, the money is here for that, but also for hiring new Border Patrol agents, for new detention spaces, for vehicle barriers and a variety of other things that help us control the border."

Kyl said he believes Democrats wanted to put the border funding in a bill that the president is more likely to veto. Democrats said it's redundant to put the border spending in more than one bill.
