    Illegal Immigration: Providing Border Resources

Though the Senate was unable to reach agreement on a comprehensive immigration bill, Congress can still do a number of things to help secure our borders. I recently joined with my colleague, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and other Senate Republicans, to add a measure to the Department of Homeland Security funding bill that would provide over $3 billion in additional resources to help secure our borders.

The measure would make funds available for a total of 23,000 Border Patrol agents, four unmanned aerial vehicles, 105 ground-based radar and camera towers, 300 miles of vehicle barriers, and 700 miles of border fencing. It also would bring an end to the “catch-and-releaseâ€

It’s unfortunate that states have had to fill the void of enforcing our immigration policies because the federal government has failed to adopt immigration reform legislation – especially dealing with employer verification.

LOL is he serious? what is wrong with the laws on the books already??

These are ok first steps to finally secure the border (although about $4 billion was promised during the amnesty debate), BUT I would hope that Sen. Kyl does not plan to use this to try to get us to accept amnesty -- which Sens. Specter and Graham are already talking about.

We want objective, measurable RESULTS regarding border security and an END to illegal immigration, such as: real workplace/interior enforcement with prosecutions of high ranking business executives who hire illegals, all 854 miles of double-layered fencing built, many more deportations of the hundreds of thousands of violent illegals who are roaming our streets, and if you really want to restore the rule of law, you will use federal government powers and withhold federal funds from sanctuary cities. (These are just a few off the top of my head.)

Real border security and attrition through enforcement over time -- and the political will to do this and stand up to the corporate and ethnic OBL special interests -- will allow us to get a handle on the illegal alien problem without another huge amnesty.
