Lake Charles, La. —
A Honduran man has been arrested by Louisiana State Police detectives and charged with unlawful possession of fraudulent documents for identification purposes and filing a false public record.
Troopers, with assistance from the U.S. Border Patrol, have also determined that Oscar Perdomo-Barrera, 24, is reportedly in the country illegally.
It was on Friday, June 1, 2011, that officials with the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) in Lake Charles contacted LSP detectives and reported a man attempting to obtain a state-issued identification card using alleged fraudulent documents. Troopers responded and detained Perdomo-Barrera of Houston, TX. Officials state that an inspection of the documents by detectives verified they were fraudulent.
Perdomo-Barrera was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center and a hold has been placed on him by the U.S. Border Patrol for being in the country illegally.
He faces up to 5 ½ years in prison and a $5,500 fine if he is convicted.
