HAMMOND — Oscar Rios Jimenez was arrested Friday in the stabbing death of a Guatemalan man, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies arrested Jimenez after he cooperated with investigators and told them about the altercation that occurred earlier that day, Chief Deputy Dennis Pevey said.

Jimenez told investigators he stabbed another man with scissors during an argument, Pevey said. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. at 14554 W. Club Deluxe Road, Hammond.

When deputies arrived, they found a man lying on the floor, unresponsive, with stab wounds in his chest, deputies have reported. Two other residents were treated for stab wounds and a third was uninjured.

Jimenez, who is not a U.S. citizen, was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish jail on a count of second-degree murder. Immigration and Naturalization Services also was contacted.

The identity of the victim had not been released Friday because his family had not yet been notified, Pevey said.
