Immigrant admits to being illegal

Hermenejildo Mendez-Barragan, 50, of Natchitoches, was arrested by West Monroe police Sunday night and charged with operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the U.S. and improper lane use.



An arrest affidavit said Mendez-Barragan was involved in a wreck at North Seventh and Mill Streets. There, he told officers he had neither a passport nor work visa, according to the report.

He was taken to West Monroe Correctional Center, then to the Ouachita Correctional Center.

Bond on the improper lane use charge was set at $150. No bond was set on the unlawful presence charge.
