La Mexicana Restaurant, 336 W Hwy 30 (Gonzales Police)

Gonzales Police arrested eight people in a shooting at La Mexicana Restaurant, 336 W. Hwy 30, which left three victims with non-life threatening gunshot wounds Saturday night.

According to reports, two La Mexicana employees flagged down police at the corner of La. 44 and La. 30, and told officers a shooting had occurred inside the restaurant.

Narvick Banales Chaves, 23, was charged with three counts of aggravated battery, two counts of discharging a firearm in city limits, felony obstruction of justice and resisting an officer.

Initially, police detained five people at the restaurant, while three men locked themselves inside.

After several hours of communication between officers and the three men, officers were able to negotiate their surrender by having them walk out of the business on their own accord. A subsequent search warrant of the business led to a recovery of a stolen .357 pistol believed to be used in the shooting.

All eight people, two women and six men are illegal immigrants, according to police.

Immigration, Customs, Border Patrol, Louisiana State Police, and the Ascension Parish Sheriff ‘s Office, all assisted in the shooting incident. Additional charges are pending from Immigration and Customs enforcement Agency.

Macaria Torres Hernandez, 28, and Maria Delrosia Castro, were charged with felony obstruction of justice.

Javier Garcia Zaragoza, 33, and Angel Banales Chaves, 20, was charged with felony obstruction of justice, and disturbing the peace by fistic encounter.

Jose Magana Herrera, 33 and Jesus Alvarez Oceguera, 33, were both charged with attempted aggravated battery, felony obstruction of justice, resisting an officer, disturbing the peace by fistic encounter and possession of fraudulent identification documents.

Leonardo Morales, 26, was charged with felony obstruction of justice, resisting an officer and disturbing the peace by fistic encounter.
