Lakewood NJ: Illegal Alien charged With Assault

Lakewood man charged with assaulting ex-girlfriend
    By Margaret F. Bonafide • TOMS RIVER BUREAU • January 15, 2008

LAKEWOOD — Police arrested a man who threatened his female roommate, charging him with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and possession of a weapon Sunday morning.

Marcello Naranjos Hernandez, who turns 37 on Wednesday, of Bergen Avenue threatened a woman who is also his former girlfriend, punching her in the lip and holding a knife to her neck, causing a scrape, said Detective Gregory StaffordSmith. The incident was reported at 9:50 a.m. Sunday.

Patrolman David Silverstein charged Naranjos Hernandez after he was found in the parking lot of the apartment he shares with the victim.

The altercation started with the victim asking him to turn down his music so she could hear the television in the bedroom. He responded by pulling a knife on her and threatening her in the bedroom, police said.

The woman refused medical attention and also refused an offer for a restraining order, StaffordSmith said.

When police found Naranjos Hernandez in the parking lot, he was unarmed and was arrested without incident, police said. The knife was recovered in the victim's bedroom.

Naranjos Hernandez remained in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, today in lieu of $45,000 bail.

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement was notified of the arrest and illegal status, StaffordSmith said. After ICE is notified, the agency makes a decision as to whether to just record the offense or deport the accused after the case is adjudicated, StaffordSmith said.

The victim refused an offer for a restraining order? She must have learned nothing from the same incident earlier in the week in Lakewood. I hope that if there are children that live with her that the authorities contacted DYFS so the children can be moved to a safer enviorment.
