33 charged with blocking L.A. streets during immigration

33 charged with blocking L.A. city streets during immigration protests

    September 7, 2010 | 11:54 am

Los Angeles prosecutors have charged 33 immigration activists with a variety of misdemeanor crimes related to three protests beginning in May that blocked city streets.

The protesters face charges, such as remaining at an unlawful assembly, resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer and blocking the sidewalk or street.

Those facing resisting-arrest charges face up to year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted. Those charged with unlawful assembly face up to six months in jail if found guilty, a spokesman for the city attorney's office said.

In the first incident May 6, eight women and six men participated in a protest against the new Arizona immigration law by blocking an intersection near the federal courthouse on Alameda Street with their hands locked together inside tube devices.

Prosecutors claim it took officers several hours to remove the protesters, who are to be arraigned Sept. 22.

Later in the month, California Highway Patrol officers arrested nine immigration protesters in front of the West Los Angeles Federal Building. The suspects sat in the street, locking their hands together and causing a massive traffic jam for several blocks.

On July 29, protesters blocked the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Highland Avenue by putting their hands together in a locking device and refusing to move.

Officers had to physically carry the demonstrators and used specialized equipment to remove the elaborate tube and chain locking systems connecting the protesters' arms.

I haven't seen anything that says that any of them are illegal aliens so they are probably anchor babies and other citizens. The TV news says that some of them are college students. Others are probably paid agitators who's bail, court cost and fine will be paid by the groups who hired them.
So they will show up in court.

    LA Rally

I recently moved out of Southern California to North Carolina specifically because the illegal immigrants have ruined Southern Ca.

Southern CA is too expensive for what you get, yes, it has great weather but no Trees, no land, only cement, graffiti, gangs, yuck!

Then on top of it, its now overcrowded, and in more and more areas, the illegals are taking over!

I just pray that people in other states take steps to stop the illegals before they ruin their cities.

Its ruined the schools, since now in LA so many areas are all Spanish speaking. So US citizens have to put their kids into private schools.

Hospitals are broke, and so many closed in the last 5 years , specifically due to the illegals going to the ER's

Illegal aliens in California get government assistance for housing (90% paid of rent) Food stamps, welfare for their own kids, free day care at public schools... I could go on and on!

    Jailing illegal alien criminals

In fact the estimated cost of illegal alien immigration in the state is almost the same amount California is over budget.

In Los Angeles, there are now 50% of the population that cannot read of write English. Drop out rates at 50% or higher.

Businesses cannot find technical people or educated workers.....

worst of all is the crime, the drunk drivers, the gangs, we have enough of our criminals in the US who are citizens, we don't need to import more!

Please stop it from growing here!

I have lived in the same house in San Diego for over 30 years and that sure doesn't sound like my neighborhood. I have trees, bushes, flowers and grass in my yard. and the rest of the neighborhood. There are parks and beaches in the city, county and state. Just outside the cities there are a lot of rural areas for people who don't like cities. The small amount of graffiti we see is painted over quickly by the home owners and/or the city employees. I haven't seen anyone who looks like a gang member in my neighborhood in 10 years or so. Living in the coastal zone, within 5 miles of the coast, I haven't had the house air conditioner on yet this summer. I turn on the AC in my truck so I can close the windows to help keep out the traffic noise and auto exhaust. And yes, it does cost to live in paradise.
