Facing deportation, man seeks
to withdraw plea
Peru native not warned by judge, he says

WAUKESHA - A Peruvian native facing deportation after a 1997 auto theft conviction has been allowed to withdraw his plea after he said a judge failed to properly warn him of the consequences.

As a result, a 10-year-old case against Danny Anton-Moran, 31, of Hartland, is back to "square one," District Attorney Brad Schimel said.
Anton-Moran asked to withdraw his plea late last year after the U.S. government initiated deportation proceedings against him. Anton-Moran, who attorney Harold Block said in a brief was a legal U.S. resident who’s been here since 1991, faced deportation over a felony conviction that had him spend more than a year in jail.
